From past to present

Historie resortu Svatá Kateřina

... Is a place of dreams for anyone who is tired of the stereotype of everyday life, the daily rat race, colleagues at work and even sometimes with your children and partners.

Do you do suffer from modern day ailments? Today it’s more and more difficult to ward off the constant interruption your mobile phone and e-mail. Regardless of the fact that you consider yourself to be balanced, successful and quite happy, you sometimes just feel the need to relax, be spoiled,
do some sports, get rid of a few pounds, take a break from the city and think about the simpler things.

Welcome to St. Kateřina, home of the slim line!

... Located on the border between Bohemia and Moravia with coniferous forests just 730 metres away, about half an hour walk from Počátky. It is one of the most beautiful and most cozy places
of the Czech-Moravian Highlands.

(Ivo Balík: "Lázně svaté Kateřiny u Počátek v době slávy i zapomnění")

The St. Kateřina resort is located on a clearing surrounded by forests, far from civilization.
Instead of the sound of engines you can hear birds singing, the wind blowing through the grass and the whisper of the trees.

The Institute also provides a nice quiet retreat for the weary who desire a break from the noise
of everyday life. Favorable local conditions, which are based on high altitude air, dry soil, revitalizing and energizing forest air in a truly lovely and romantic atmosphere, are certainly beneficial to the human body. There is a refreshing social spirit in the spa that is free from compulsory labeling and tiring convenience.

If you listen of the surrounding silence you will hear the ripple of the fountain
of the St. Kateřina spring. A rich medicinal spring flows from the ground which is protected by a baroque church of the same name.

During the reign of Adam I. Hradec (years 1507-1531) Počátky was often visited by a wide variety of distinguished guests, while the St. Kateřina spa, with its healing water, served to relieve the sick coming here.

You don’t have time to exercise regularly and you sometimes aren’t as a careful eater as you should be which results in weight gain. You’re not exactly pleased with the dark circles under your eyes and the wrinkles on your skin when you look into the mirror. Another problem that you might routinely experience is not being able to fit into your favorite trousers.

At St. Kateřina we will prepare an exercise and sports program, yoga,
meditation and a relaxation under the leadership of qualified trainers and dieticians.

In recent times spa guests were provided with the opportunity to do a physical work outdoors in the garden, in the fields or meadows for the cause of combining business with pleasure. It is a good spa tool for many of those who are nervous or suffering from bad blood circulation caused by constant sitting and also a good way to strengthen each person who is tired of physical labor.

In any weather, you can run, ride a mountain bike, walk through the surrounding forests, overcome distance cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, play tennis, hockey, volleyball, passing through the surrounding dogsled or ride a horse.

You will sweat a lot (in one of the 8 gyms) in training on the treadmills, or on spinning or fitness machines. If you still have any energy leftover, you can release it at kick boxing lessons.

Yoga and Pilates will stretch and strengthen your muscles and you will feel the harmony of body and spirit. You will be feeling well.

Demanding exercise will alternate with moments of relaxation in the sauna, a steam bath, jacuzzi
or mud wraps. Your body will get rid of the fatigue by classic, sports or Thai massage. You can achieve that desired tan on the solar field.

In 1895, professors Hueppe and Gintl performed a chemical and bacteriological analysis
of the St. Kateřina water source and called it "ideal water", which "is not only beneficial to the skin, but also the reflectoric nerve activity enhances performance of the heart, lungs, digestive organs and glands and acts on the whole nervous system and the transformation of substances."

(Křížek V.: Obrazy z dějin lázeňství, Prague 1987)

You eat four times a day. Always choose from several low-calorie meals with a large proportion of vegetables and an adequate amount of protein.

Anna Rosenberg (+ 1580), widow of Jáchym of Hradec, who drowned in the Danube in 1565, liked to use the water from the St. Kateřina springs. While staying in Žirovnice, she came to St. Kateřina with her farm servants. For example, on 25th January 1572 she met here with her sister Eva, Countess Zlenská and in only one day she spent for breakfast and lunch 2 threescore and 4 and a half sous,
6 and a half denarius, which was equivalent to about 1000 CZK (in 1939).
